Aequitas. A Journal of Political Philosophy and Society is a new peer-reviewed journal. It provides an international forum for political philosophers to address public affairs and social problems. „Aequitas“ denotes justice, fairness, and impartiality. The journal will bring these values to bear on concrete political events and issues.
As an academic journal, Aequitas has three distinctive aims. First, it promotes the engagement of political philosophy with real-world politics and practice, including concrete cases and policies. Second, it encourages collaboration with other disciplines and especially empirically-informed social sciences. Not least, Aequitas will be open to a plurality of philosophical approaches and cultural perspectives. Interdisciplinary contributions as well as contributions from analytic philosophy (broadly conceived), continental philosophy, and other philosophical traditions will be equally welcomed. It particularly invites papers from countries and approaches under-represented in comparable journals. The journal’s overall aim is to provide an open and equitable platform for discourse on social and political affairs.
Aequitas will be published twice yearly. Each issue will tackle a single theme – looking at a major issue facing global society. All contributions will be in English. A specially commissioned survey article outlining the normative aspects of the issue’s theme will introduce four to six double-blind peer-reviewed essays. The journal meets all key journal ranking standards.
Aequitas will tackle the following themes in its first issues:
- „Migration & Stability“ (volume 1, issue 1, 2020)
- „Global Philosophy“ (volume 1, issue 2, 2020)
- „Islam and Liberalism“ (volume 2, issue 1, 2021)
- „Capitalism and Post-Growth“ (volume 2, issue 2, 2021)
